Designs by Genevieve White Carter

The Peacock Room Collection is inspired by the wallpaper in the "Peacock Room" of Stanford White's celebrated summer house on Long Island, Box Hill.

The "Peacock Room" at Box Hill still has the original peacock Wallpaper that Stanford White, the Gilded Age’s most famous architect, installed on its eaved walls above the wainscotting. It is a magical room once entered, after a long dark hallway there is a burst of Peacocks overhead. The wallpaper frames a large window that looks out onto the Long Island sound.
The Peacock Collection includes a graphic, modern version of the peacocks wallpaper.

Stanford White (1853-1906)was a partner in the architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White.  He designed homes for the most prominent families of the time including the Astors and the Vanderbilts.  He also designed public, institutional, and religious buildings, including Washington Square Arch, the second Madison Square Garden, the Rotunda at the University of Virginia, and the Boston Public Library, and Tessla's labratory.

He believed that architects should live better than their clients, and expressed this in his eclectic choices in the design of his own summer house, Box Hill.  Box Hill remains in the White family to this day, and is owned by Daniel White.

Genevieve White Carter is the great, great granddaughter of Stanford White, and continues the tradition of design in the White Family. She formed Box Hill Productions with her grandmother, Jehanne White, to produce items that are inspired by the ecclectic treasures found at Box Hill.

The Peacock Room Collection is produced as a collaboration between Astek Inc. and Genevieve White Carter of Box Hill Productions.

The Peacock Room Collection can be ordered through http://www.designyourwall.com/ beginning May 1, 2011.
