Millions of Young Stars
Located in the heart of the Tarantula Nebula is this turbulant breeding-ground for several million young stars. The stars are carving deep cavities in the surrounding material by unleashing streams of ultraviolet light. The UV light is etching away the enveloping hydrogen gas cloud in which the stars were born revealing a fantasy landscape of pillars, ridges, and valleys.Image courtesy NASA, ESA, and the Hubble Heritage (STScI/AURA)-ESA/Hubble Collaboration
